What is Motivational Interviewing?
Motivational interviewing is a counselling model that helps people resolve ambivalent feelings and insecurities to find the internal motivation they need to change their behaviour. It is a genuine, empathetic, and client centred process that understands the difficulty of making change in ones life.
This model can be applied to all areas of life, whether it is motivating you to go to the gym or applying for that dream job. However, motivational interviewing has been scientifically proven to be effective in clients struggling with addiction issues.
What is Transtheoretical Model (Stages of Change)?
The Transtheoretical Model also known as the Stages of Change model was developed in the 1970s. It focuses on the decision-making process people go through when deciding to change something. Whether that is quitting smoking or thinking about going to counselling, this model looks at helping people move through the change process.
This model can also be applied to all area of life and goes hand in hand with motivational interviewing. It to has been proven to be scientifically effective in clients wanting to make change in their substance use.
